Cabinet positively assesses initiative that permits agitation on election day

The Cabinet positively assessed an initiative that permits electoral agitation on the election day and the day before this that has been considered a “silence day” until now, IPN reports.

The legislative initiative was drafted on the recommendations of the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities that on October 31 approved the report on the analysis, examination and evaluation of the electoral legislation based on which the early mayoral elections held in Chisinau municipality were invalidated.

Electoral agitation on the election day will be banned only in polling places and within 100 meters of these. Prime Minister Pavel Filip said it will be hard to measure the distance of 100 meters from polling places and proposed considering the possibility of excluding this provision so that agitation is banned only in polling places.

The fine for the non-observance of the new provisions will be 300 to 600 lei for private individuals and 1,200 to 1,500 lei for persons holding responsible posts or electoral contenders.
