The head of the Congress of the Moldovan Diaspora in Russia Alexandr Kalinin called upon the Government of Moldova to establish more polling places in Russia for the next parliamentary elections so that every Moldovan can exercise the right to vote.
In a news conference at IPN, Alexandr Kalinin said that only one polling place was opened in Russia for the legislative elections of July 2009 even if, according to official data, there were more than 200,000 Moldovans on the territory of Russia at that time. In the early elections of November 2010, there were set up four polling places. Kalinin made a comparison with Italy, where 16 polling places were opened for 125,000 Moldovans. According to him, at least 21 poling places would be needed in different regions of Russia.
Alexandr Kalinin considers the political parties of Moldova should work more actively with the citizens from abroad. The voters must be informed about the political programs and how the parties intend to solve the economic and social problems faced by the Moldovans from other countries. The Moldovan diaspora is ready to become involved in informing the citizens so as to make them realize the importance of their participation in the political life of the state.
The date of the next parliamentary elections hasn’t been yet set, but a number of politicians said they may be held on November 30.
