A case of mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) was discovered in Comrat town. The diagnosis was confirmed by specialists from Chisinau. A set of required measures were taken at local level, IPN reports.
The owner of the sick cow alerted the veterinarians on August 6. In a program on the public TV channel of Gagauzia GRT, Andrei Curca, of the State Sanitary-Veterinary Service of Gagauz Yeri, said the institution’s specialists took samples from the cow’s brain and sent them to the National Veterinary Diagnosis Center. The animal’s’ body was burned. The analysis results presented on August 12 confirmed the diagnosis of mad cow disease.
As a result, there were taken measures recommended in such cases. There were identified the persons who had been in contact with the animal and its body. They will be vaccinated gratis at the Comrat district hospital.
The mad cow disease is a brain disease of cows that causes death. It can be transmitted to humans and other living things and can cause brain modifications if not treated.
