CC will pronounce on law banning Communist symbols in May

The Constitutional Court (CC) will take a decision over the constitutionality of the law that bans the use of the Communist symbols – hammer and sickle – by the end of May, the Court’s president Alexandru Tanase said in a TV program, IPN reports.

Earlier, the Venice Commission recommended reviewing the provisions of this law, saying they infringe certain basic rights and fundamental freedoms. Moldova’s Constitutional Court was unable to pronounce because the legislative body delayed the procedure for naming two CC judges.

Last July, Parliament banned the use of the Communist symbols for political purposes. The law was challenged in the CC, which is to pronounce on its constitutionality within six months.
