CEC employees to examine electoral lists at mayors’ offices
Employees of the Central Election Commission (CEC) from January 11 will travel to mayors’ offices to identify deficiencies in compiling and updating the electoral rolls, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communiqué, the CEC says 27 of the 898 mayors’ offices did not submit the basic updated electoral registers in time. Therefore, the persons to blame were punished administratively.
The Central Election Commission set up a working group that consists of representatives of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, the local public authorities and of the international development partners. The group will examine the electoral lists sent to the CEC and will put forward proposals for correctly compiling them.
By March 1 every year, the local public authorities must update the electoral rolls and present the given information to the CEC.
