There weren’t enough votes today in the Central Election Commission to include debates on a bill proposed by PLDM in the order of the day. Earlier, on July 31, despite being debated, there weren’t enough votes to approve it.
CEC member Sergiu Gurduza was the one to propose the bill’s inclusion today, and he was the only one to vote in favor, as two members voted against, two others abstained, and others didn’t show up at all. The issue will be postponed until a later occasion.
The draft law aims to give special rights to voters in Moldovan communities abroad. In particular, diaspora members would be able to vote with an identity card or a temporary passport, not only with a passport. Also, it is proposed to allow Moldovans abroad to cast their ballots over two days, ensure each polling station abroad with at least 5,000 ballots, and allow diaspora members to donate to campaigns or candidates.
