CEC sets ceiling on sums that can be transferred to electoral accounts

The Central Election Commission (CEC) set the ceiling on the amounts that can be transferred to the electoral fund of the competitors who will run in the new local elections of May 20.

The ceiling for Chisinau municipality is 18.2 million lei, while for Balti municipality is 3.1 million lei. In other communities that will have new elections, the ceilings do not exceed 124,000 lei, IPN reports.

CEC president Alina Russu said the ceiling is determined by multiplying the number of voters in the electoral constituency where elections are held with a coefficient equal to 0.5% of the average salary.

In the same meeting, the Commission set the size of the interest-free loan provided to election runners. A party, sociopolitical organization or electoral bloc will be able to borrow at most 25,000 lei, while an independent candidate 5,000 lei.

Also, there was constituted the Chisinau Municipal District Electoral Council No. 1 and the Balti Municipal District Electoral Council No. 2. Both consist of nine members. The secretaries of the two councils will convoke the first meetings where there will be chosen the chairperson and deputy chairperson.

The Municipal District Electoral Councils No. 1 and No. 2 will establish the polling places until April 14 and the electoral bureaus of these until April 24.
