CEC validates mandates of three new CMC councilors
The Central Electoral Commission validated on Tuesday, July 17, the mandates of three new members of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The trio Victor Gurau, Elena Hrenova and Igor Lupulciuc were substitute candidates on the PCRM lists, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In September 2011, the Municipal Council decided to withdraw the mandates of councilors Igor Dodon, Ion Ceban and Zinaida Greceanii, elected on PCRM lists, and submitted the decision to the Central Electoral Commission. Meanwhile, the Chisinau City Hall contested the decision in court. As a result, the court suspended the legal power and the execution of the decision and CEC delayed the examination of the assignment of mandates. Last week, the Supreme Justice Court ruled that the withdrawal of the trio’s mandates was legal.
Victor Gurau, one of the three new PCRM councilors, said he would propose structural changes in the local public administration at the very first meetings. His proposals would be meant to reduce corruption and provide solutions to social problems faced by the people in Chisinau.
The Communists’ Party had 24 councilors in CMC, the Liberals have 17, the Liberal-Democratic Party has 7, while the Democrats have only one councilor. Two councilors left PCRM and formed the Socialist group.
