The Central Electoral Commission today issued the PAS party with a formal warning ordering it to pay to the State Budget 76,000 lei left over from an overdue fine imposed in 2016.
The CEC has recalled that in 2016 PAS received a 100,000 lei contribution to support Maia Sandu’s presidential bid. The donation came from Moldavian Airlines SRL, a partly foreign-owned company, in violation of foreign contribution rules.
The party was ordered to surrender the money, as required by law, and the electoral body agreed for PAS to pay the fine in installments. However, since then the party has made eight payments totalling only 24,000 lei.
Under today’s warning, PAS has 6 months to pay up, and can still do so in installments.
