A nine-year-old girl riding a bike was struck mortally by a car on the Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni road in the afternoon of September 19. The car involved in the accident belongs to the Sculeni mayor’s office.

Contacted by IPN, Cristina Vicol, press officer of the Ungheni Police Inspectorate, said the accident happened at about 3pm. The Skoda Yeti car was driven by a man aged 58. This hit from behind the child who was from Blindești village, Sculeni commune.

The driver took an alcotest and this showed the man wasn’t inebriated. He was arrested for 72 hours and faces three to seven years behind bars and ban on driving for a period of at most four years.
