Dorin Chirtoaca had greater chances in the second round of the mayoral elections because the voters mobilized, while the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) joined forces. This shows that the people want the members of the alliance to remain together, political analyst Vitali Catana stated for Info-Prim Neo.
“Dorin Chirtoaca’s victory was anticipated. His chances after the first round were greater because he was supported by those from the AEI. The votes of Valentina Buliga played a special role,” said Vitali Catana.
According to the analyst, if the PLDM had fielded a more serious candidate, Dorin Chirtoaca wouldn’t have won. Dorin Chirtoaca’s victory is first of all the result of the mobilization of the voters against a Communist candidate. “Dorin Chirtoaca should not be very proud as he contributed less to this result,” considers Vitali Catana.
However, the analyst said that Dorin Chirtoaca had been much more active during the last two weeks of the campaign and this helped him. The scandal concerning Anatol Tofan also made a contribution. “It should be a lesson for the politicians. The campaign shows that not only the money count. In the future, the politicians should more attentively select their candidates,” said Vitali Catana.
According to the preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission, Dorin Chirtoaca won the second round of voting with 50.6% of the ballot. Comparing these results with those of 2007, when Dorin Chirtoaca won 61.17% of the poll, the analyst said that the PL’s candidate this year had a more powerful opponent. The result was influenced by the unserious attitude of some of the parties running in the elections and some of the failures of Dorin Chirtoaca, which affected his image, said Vitali Catana.
