Chisinau councilor asserts he was victim of corruption attempt

Municipal councilor Igor Gritsko, who is a member of the Communist Party, said he was offered bribe of tens of millions of euros in order to leave the faction. On September 22, he filed a relevant complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Gritsko said the bribe was offered by persons who presented themselves as representatives of the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration. According to the councilor, the given persons offered him money, property, posts and luxury cars. They gave him an advance of €50,000. He would have received €100,000 to €200,000 for every important vote. The councilor said that he was also offered the posts of deputy mayor and commission chairman. “I think that they do not want to come to the meetings of the Chisinau Council because of this. They want to obtain this golden vote by any means,” said Gritsko. He also said that he could not record the voices of those who tried to bribe him, but considers that the persons can be identified though the phone. Asked why he did not inform the police to catch these persons red-handed, he said he could not as he hasn’t been contacted for four days. Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu said they asked the Prosecutor General’s Office to take measures to prevent corruption, blackmailing and influence peddling. He stated there were other attempts to corrupt Communist councilors. He also said that the councilor’s deed is courageous and proves that the PCRM’s team is united and nobody will manage to destabilize the situation inside the party and the Communist faction on the Municipal Council. The Communist councilors convoked the Chisinau Council on September 22, but the meeting did not take place as a quorum was not present.
