The Chisinau District Electoral Council on April 18 received the documents filed by the first candidates for mayor of Chisinau and the party lists of candidates for seats on the Municipal Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Seven persons and political parties submitted the documents during the first two hours until 3pm. Among them is the Liberal Democratic Party’s candidate Victor Bodiu, the Communist Party’s candidate Igor Dodon, the leader of the Movement “Ravnopravie” Valery Climenco, Radu Busila, of the Christian Democratic People’s Party, Sergiu Coropceanu, of the Social Democratic Party, and Valentin Krylov, of the Party of Socialists “Patria-Rodina”.
In the Communist Party’s list of candidates, Igor Dodon is followed by former Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi, who is now an MP. The PLDM’s list contains no lawmaker.
Asked by the press what first steps he will take if he is elected as mayor, Igor Dodon said he has a rather ambitious plan, with road repair being a top priority. He assured he will be more useful as mayor of Chisinau than as lawmaker.
The PSD’s candidate Sergiu Coropceanu said that he will make effort to increase Chisinau residents’ incomes to the minimum subsistence level and to enforce the law at the City Hall. He stated that Igor Dodon is his only serious opponent.
The PLDM’s candidate Victor Bodiu said the cleaning up and the infrastructure of Chisinau are among his main priorities. “We must have a European, nice and clean city which we can be proud of,” he stressed.
The order in which the election runners will be written in ballots will be decided by a draw that will be held towards the end of the day. The applications can be lodged by May 5.
