The ruling parties discussed the adoption of legislation ensuring gender equality in politics and elections within the government coalition. “All the components agreed that this is a priority. The party I represent considers that we should take a decision in this respect by the end of the current session,” said Head of Parliament Igor Corman, quoted by IPN.
The Speaker stated that the goal of the government is to close the summer session according to plan. “There are many priorities and the subject of women’s representation is also a priority. There are two legislative initiatives in this respect – one from the Government and another one from MPs. In the next week’s meeting of the competent commission, proposals will be formulated and submitted to the Parliament’s Standing Bureau,” said Igor Corman.
He reminded that the Parliament’s mandate ends on November 28. If certain bills need to be reexamined in the second reading for certain reasons, the legislature will hold extraordinary sittings. Igor Corman added that he knows the position of civil society on women’s representation in politics and elections, underlining that they are open for discussions.
