Communist faction in CMC seeks annulment of new tariffs

The leader of the Communist faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Valery Pavlov demanded that the new water and sewerage charges and bus and trolleybus fares be annulled. At Thursday's meeting of the Council, Pavlov asked that the given issue be introduced in the agenda, but his proposal was rejected, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The decision to raise the tariffs shocked the capital city,” the councilor said. “In order to avoid protests in Chisinau, the municipal councilors must find an optimal solution,” he added, without saying what is that optimal solution. Non-affiliated councilor Mihai Severovan replied that the CMC took a correct decision and that the new tariffs are the lowest in Europe and the CIS states. He also said that the CMC did not ignore the vulnerable groups of people, the pensioners and invalids, and offered them compensations. Valery Pavlov asked that the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca should present a progress report in the CMC. This time, his proposal was accepted by a majority vote. Pavlov argued that this year the mayor has been involved in electoral campaigns more than in the life of Chisinau. The mayor agreed to render a report towards the end of the meeting. Thursday's agenda includes over 600 items.
