Communists say foreign company seeks to take over Cahul-Giurgiulesti rail line
The Communist parliamentary group claims that railway traffic between Cahul and Giurgiulesti was deliberately stopped because a company wants to buy this segment, Info-Prim Neo reports.
PCRM parliamentarian Alexandr Petkov said the state enterprise Moldova Railways halted the traffic, although it had enough material for strengthening this segment. “The actual goal is a takeover by a foreign company. This is a threat for the country’s energy and food security. We want the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Economy and the head of the Security and Intelligence Service to appear before Parliament”, demanded the Communist.
Liberal Party’s Gheorghe Brega replied that the railway section between Cahul and Giurgiulesti wasn’t safe for traffic because of embezzlement committed by the Cmmunist government when building the railroad. “Return this money and we’ll reopen the section right away”, said Brega.
Freight and passenger traffic on the Cahul-Giurgiulesti railway section was temporarily halted for safety reasons. During a periodic inspection, it was found that the embankment had drifted as a result of recent heavy rains. The cost of the repair of this section is estimated at 350 million lei. The Moldovan Railway Company doesn’t know how much time the repair could take.
