Constantin Codreanu: I will remain unionist as mayor of Chisinau municipality as well

The candidate of the National Unity Party (PUN) for mayoral general of Chisinau municipality Constantin Codreanu will remain unionist as a mayor as well, if he wins the seat. But this does not mean that he will promote only unionism. He aims to develop projects for the residents of Chisinau. The candidate spoke about his plans in the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

“I will remain unionist as the mayor of Chisinau municipality as well. But this does not mean that I will promote unionism from morning till night. I want to be a man of deeds that will help us more than any unionist speech in the immediate period, including in this autumn’s elections,” said the candidate.

Constantin Codreanu noted that if he is elected mayor, he will cooperate with the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) and with the central authorities of the country based on communication and openness. He will make public all his initiatives and proposals so that the citizens can become involved and exert pressure in the case of important projects. “I’m ambitious enough to believe that we can have a dialogue with anyone from the CMC and anyone from the Government of the Republic of Moldova,” he stated.

The politician said the winning of the mayoralty by the candidate of the left is the main danger to which the capital city is exposed. The keeping of office by the current acting mayor Silvia Radu also does not advantage the unionists. He proposed that the representatives of the right should field a common candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau, but all in vain. The PUN would have supported Maia Sandu if she had been the common candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”. As regards Andrei Nastase, Constantin Codreanu said this made less amiable statements for the unionists and will thus not be supported by the PUN.

Constantin Codreanu hasn’t been yet registered officially as a runner in the May 20 mayoral elections.

So far there were registered seven candidates: Vasile Costiuc, of the Party “Democracy at Home”; Andrei Nastase, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”; Alexandr Roshko, of the Party “Our Home – Moldova”; Reghina Apostolova, of the Shor Party; Valeriu Munteanu, of the Liberal Party, and Ion Ceban, of the Party of Socialists, and Victor Stratila, of the Green Ecologist Party. The deadline for the submission of applications is April 19.
