The ruling alliance reached a consensus as regards the amendments that are to be made to the Constitution and a final decision will be made public before the start of the Parliament’s spring-summer session, the leader of the PLDM, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said after the February 7 meeting of the AEI Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The leaders of the AEI did not announce that they intend to hold a meeting. They said they discussed the election of the President and solutions to the political crisis. The representatives of the Liberal Party left the meeting half an hour earlier. Vlad Filat said they were in a hurry as they were to go to a birthday party.
The Liberal-Democratic leader also said that the head of state will be elected and this objective can be achieved by two ways – by holding a constitutional referendum or by reaching a compromise within Parliament and electing the President by 62 non-Communist votes.
The chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said they discuss all the possibilities. “We must find solutions to unlock the political crisis. When we announce our solution, we will make sure that the President is elected,” he stated, adding he is for opening the parliamentary session on February 16.
After the meeting, the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov told Radio Free Europe that a final decision on the referendum has not been yet reached. He said that they must agree all the details regarding the election of the President as they cannot afford to make corrections then.
According to Dumitru Diacov, the next meeting of the AEI Council may take place on Saturday or Sunday.
