We periodically discuss with the Liberal Party. We started the
discussions long before the 2009 elections, Russian Ambassador in
Chisinau Valery Kuzmin said after a meeting with the PL leader Mihai
Ghimpu on February 8, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Russian official, the discussions centered on the
situation in the world, the events in Egypt, the relations between
civilizations and the Moldovan Constitutional Court’s decision, whereby
it ruled that it is within the Parliament’s competence to fix the date
of the presidential elections. “This interpretation allows room for
several possible scenarios. I think not all the political parties
decided yet what can be done and how it should be done,” Valery Kuzmin
said.
Mihai Ghimpu said the decision confirmed again that the Parliament is
the supreme legislative body in Moldova.
Asked if they discussed the rise in gas prices, Mihai Ghimpu said the
subject wasn’t in the agenda of the meeting and the import price of the
Russia gas is set in accordance with the agreement signed with Gazprom
when Vladimir Voronin was head of state.
The Russian Ambassador commenced discussions with the Moldovan parties
in January. So far, he has met with the leaders of the PLDM, PDM, PCRM
and of the extraparliamentary party PSD. “We hold political discussions
and exchange opinions. This is a valuable thing for us,” he stated.
