Constitutional Court must oblige MPs to elect head of state, Vladimir Voronin
The leader of the Communist Party of Moldova Vladimir Voronin criticizes the Constitutional Court for not yet pronouncing on the issue of presidential elections. He said the Court must oblige the lawmakers to elect the head of state as soon as possible. Related statements were made during a school year opening ceremony at a school in Gagauzia, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The Constitutional Court keeps silent. It shows that it does not understand what is going on and that it does not know the Constitution. I don’t know what this will lead to. We slowly go towards the usurpation of state power,” said Vladimir Voronin
He also said that the idea of diminishing the number of votes in Parliament in order to amend the Constitution is a ‘swindle’. “If we had used such a procedure when we had 60 seats, the European Union would have screamed and come to Chisinau, but now nobody is here. When they do something against the Communists, everything is right and legal as they want to prevent us from coming to power at any cost,” said Vladimir Voronin.
On September 20, the Constitutional Court is to pronounce its decision on the application filed by MPs representing the Alliance for European Integration. They asked the Court to interpret Article 78 of the Constitution, which describes the procedure for electing the President of Moldova by Parliament.
