Constitutional Court to pronounce on term for electing head of state
The Constitutional Court on February 8 will pass judgment on the challenge filed by the Communist lawmakers Sergiu Sarbu and Artur Reshetnikov, whereby they request determining the term during which the President of Moldova must be elected. The information was confirmed by the Constitutional Court's press secretary Dumitru Tara.
Under Article 90 of the Constitution, presidential elections are held within two months of the date when the post of head of state falls vacant.
The Communist MPs want to know if the term stipulated in Article 90 applies to the case when the post of President of Moldova is held on an interim basis.
