Constitutional reform, Lustration Bill are among Lib-Dems' priorities

The Liberal-Democratic Party's priorities in the upcoming parliamentary autumn/winter session include initiatives that are meant to ensure an unobstructed path for the Government, in particular with respect to the commitments assumed under agreements with Moldova's development partners. The statement was made by Valeriu Strelet, leader of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group, at a news conference on Thursday. Among the priorities of the party are the Lustration Bill and the constitutional reform, as well as a bill concerning the MPs' parliamentary immunity. “The bill on the parliamentary immunity received the approval of the Constitutional Court last November. This year in May, the bill met all conditions to be put on track in Parliament and I think that in early September it will be formally registered with Parliament”, said Valeriu Strelet. Concerning the constitutional reform, Strelet said this issue can't be delayed any further. At a first stage, delegates from all the Alliance component parties will be invited to draft the constitutional amendments. Then, other actors, including the parliamentary opposition and civil society representatives, will be invited to join the discussions. “We don't expect this process to be easy at all. And I personally think that it will be lengthy, too. But the objective is to have an updated Constitution by the end of the Parliament's term”, said Strelet. In developing the Lustration Bill, Strelet said that other countries' experience was analyzed. The Bill is supposed to be debated within the Alliance first and it is likely that a common Bill drafted by all the Alliance components will be submitted in the end.
