Contradictory testimonies in case of Ion Perju
Contradictory statements were made in the hearing on the case of policeman Ion Perju, who is accused of murdering protester Valeriu Boboc on the night of April 8, 2009. A driver of the Chisinau Ambulance Service gave testimony that was different from that formulated on April 10, 2009. He said that he then descried the events under the instructions of the doctor. Ion Perju told the reporters that this is not the only case of the kind and he will provide more evidence to show that the investigation is conducted “under orders”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the April 11 hearing, the witness aged over 60 said that he was on duty at the Emergency Hospital on April 8, 2009. He stated that that night the doctors were called by a person dressed in camouflage. That person said that someone needed medical assistance in the combat zone. “We went to the place with Doctor Bascov and his assistant to transport that person to the hospital. I did not approach that person who was lying down and did not see his face. I waited in the car until that person was brought there,” said the driver.
His testimony runs counter to the statements he made two years ago. In April 2009, he said that he saw how a man took an unconscious person out of the trunk of a NIVA, put him down and drove away.
Asked by the prosecutor, the witness said that the writing and signature in the police report were not his. Afterward, he said that he wrote the statements at the instruction of the doctor and that he saw nothing.
After the hearing, Ion Perju told the press that light started to be shed on his case as it is evident that the statements were made under the pressure exerted by the superiors. “There were many contradictions between the statements of the witnesses. We will prove that they were made under orders,” he stated.
Ion Perju also said that all the police officers and other witnesses come to the hearing with the testimony prepared. “They charged me and avoid identifying the real culprits. They make effort to hide the truth,” he said.
The next hearing was scheduled for May 6.
