The seven lawmakers who formed the Council for Reforming the Liberal Party (PL) said they earlier discussed with the party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu and told him that they consider the party must be headed by Dorin Chirtoaca. In the program “In Depth” on Pro TV channel, Ana Gutu and Ion Hadarca denied the reports that they initiated the reformation of the party without saying something to the leader of the PL, IPN reports.
Ana Gutu said she joined the party as she wanted to work under the guidance of Dorin Chirtoaca. She considers that the Liberal Party had a poorer result in the last parliamentary elections because Dorin Chirtoaca wasn’t named as party leader.
According to the MPs of the Council for Reforming the PL, who were excluded from the party, the Liberal leader delayed taking a decision when they proposed Dorin Chirtoaca, who is Ghimpu’s nephew, for the post of leader of the PL. Moreover, other members of the party said that Dorin Chirtoaca is not yet fully mature for such a post.
Ion Hadarca said the decision to exclude five MPs from the PL is illegal as they were elected in a national congress and were to be removed from the party the same way. The MPs stressed that nobody persuaded them to take such a decision. They want the party to remain in power and to prevent the Communists from coming to power.
Mihai Ghimpu repeatedly said that he will accept back some of those who will admit that they made a mistake. Hadarca and Gutu are convinced that none of those who signed the statement on the party’s reformation will return to the PL.
The lawmakers also said that in a meeting on April 15, five members of the Liberal parliamentary group who do not form part of the Council decided to propose Valeriu Munteanu for the post of head of faction. According to them, this is an illegal decision as the faction consists of 12 MPs.
The Council for Reforming the PL aims to convene an extraordinary congress of the party in a month and to raise the issue of the replacement of the party’s administration.
