Criminal cases started against two ministers
Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta and Culture Minister Boris Focsa are investigated in two criminal cases. The way the cases are handled depends on who will be in power, said the invitees of the program “Tara lui Dogaru” (“Dogaru’s Country”) on Publika TV, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The information that Veaceslav Negruta is suspected of breaking the law in the case of former MP Pantelei Sandulachi, who received €400,000 damages from the government for delaying a criminal case, was made public on February 12. The Ministry of Finance paid the damages even if the court decision wasn’t definitive. After Pantelei Sandulachi received the money, the prosecutors appealed the decision to the Supreme Court of Justice. The judges decided that Sandulachi should receive €1,000 euro and should return the rest of €399,000 to the government, but he didn’t.
Lawyer Vitalie Nagacevschi said they should now ask why the Ministry of Finance hurried to pay the money to Pantelei Sandulachi. The participants in the program said some of the plaintiffs are waiting for damages to be paid to them for many years, but the Ministry of Finance does not hurry in their case, even if the decisions on their cases are irrevocable.
Yesterday Veaceslav Negruta denied the accusations, saying he acted according to the law and the accusations represented an attack made on him for political reasons. The Ministry of Finance represents the Liberal Democratic Party.
Culture Minister Boris Focsa is investigated as a suspect in another criminal case started over abuse of power. The information was confirmed by the head of the Prosecution Division of the National Anticorruption Center Bogdan Zumbreanu. The minister is accused of illegally privatizing a part of the building located at 52 M. Eminescu St in Chisinau. The damage caused to the state was estimated at 1 million lei. Boris Focsa faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment. He represents the Democratic Party in the Cabinet.
