The degeneration of the April 7, 2009 protests was anticipated, head of the Security and Information Service (SIS) Mihai Balan said in the April 4 hearings held in Parliament. According to him, the groups of instigators managed to take control over the peaceful protesters and to engage them in violent clashes and the vandalizing of state buildings, IPN reports.

The SIS director also said that political forces from inside and outside and particular foreign organizations were involved in the April events. They acted in concert with national political parties in order to manipulate the people.

According to Mihai Balan, the police are also to blame for the degeneration of the peaceful protests as they didn’t efficiently manage the situation. The hypothesis that a coup was staged on April 7 wasn’t confirmed.

Mihai Balan underlined that the internal situation now is not simple and there are yet forces that do not want good to the country. They continue to use the same methods to upset the social balance, endangering thus state security.
