Degradation in Balti will be stopped, candidates for mayor

During 27 years, Balti municipality has witnessed a continuous degradation process. The city was held hostage in a move to influence the parliamentary elections. The municipality needs viable solutions to stop the degradation process and to ensure the development of the city according to the European model, Sergiu Burlacu, the candidate for mayor of Balti of the National Unity Party (PAS), and Vladimir Bolea, the representative of the candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Simion Gutu, stated in electoral debates at Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

Vladimir Bolea said that when working out the electoral program, the PAS team centered on the realities of the city, taking into account the local budget that is very small. Even so, important things can be done if the budget funds are not misused and are managed correctly. European funds can be obtained for implementing projects and Romania can be asked to provide assistance in this regard, including through twinning with Romanian cities.

The representative of the PAS candidate said Balti during the past 27 years has gone through a continuous degradation process. There is no urban culture with architecture, parks, streets and public gardens. The state of the roads in the city is very bad and these should not only be stopped up, but fully rehabilitated. The problem of waste is common to the whole country and is not typical of Balti only. There are many solutions in this regard, but there is no political will to solve the problem. The PAS suggests establishing public-private partnerships. When the municipal budget is of only 400 million lei, it is hard to build a waste processing plant on public funds only. This is yet possible with the assistance of investors.

For his part, Sergiu Burlacu said Balti municipality has faced defective management and has been held hostage during 27 years so as to influence the parliamentary elections. They manipulated based on the ethnic origin of the inhabitants and delayed the European development process so that the residents of Balti do not see that they can enjoy better living conditions.

The PUN candidate noted that he and his team aim to reform the local public administration, but not as until now, by changing only the administration of the mayor’s office, not yet the heads of divisions and municipal enterprises. The waste problem can be solved by setting up sorted waste storage platforms by obtaining foreign funds.

Sergiu Burlacu said another priority is to develop urban infrastructure by attracting investments from Romania, including by twinning, and by increasing the energy efficiency of apartment buildings. Investments will be attracted to the education and health systems so as to make sure the European standards are met and this is beneficial to the citizens.

Seven candidates representing political parties and an independent candidate will compete in the Balti mayoral elections of May 20. Elena Gritsko is the only independent candidate for the mayoralty of Balti. The candidates who represent political parties are: Alexandru Usatyi, of the Party of Socialists; Arina Spataru, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”; Pavel Verejan, of the Shor Party; Nicolae Grigorishin, of “Our Party”; Sergiu Burlacu, of the National Unity Party; Simion Gutu, of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, and Oleg Topolnitski, of the Russian-Slavic Party of Moldova.
