Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu considers the Socialists took an important step towards the uninominal voting system, while Socialist MP Vasile Bolea insists the party he represents will promote the mixed-member electoral system. Statements on the issue were made in the program “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
“The PDM wants to reach a consensus with other parties on the uninominal voting system. We will try to convince by arguments. We are glad that the PSRM is now closer to us than a month ago,” said Sergiu Sarbu.
The Democrat MP also said that a group of experts of the Venice Commission will be in Chisinau during May 9-11. “From technical viewpoint, they could pronounce on both of the bills, our bill and the Socialists’ bill. The Venice Commission will not say which of the bills is better. The experts will examine each article from legal viewpoint to see if these meet the European standards,” he stated.
For his part, Vasile Bolea said the PSRM will insist that the foreign partners should press the PDM to accept the mixed-member electoral system. He considers the mixed-member electoral system does not offer the Democrats chances of entering Parliament in the future elections and thus the PDM will use the law enforcement bodies it controls to force MPs to vote for the uninominal voting system.
