The civic platform “Dignity and Truth” will prepare its own report on the stealing of billions of lei from the country or the ‘theft of the century’, as the members of the platform’s initiative group call it. In a news conference on Friday, these said they will identify the persons who committed the theft and will demand that these be punished unconditionally, IPN reports.
One of the members, Andrei Nastase said the May 3 protest mounted in central Chisinau showed that the people no longer want to endure, noting that a new stage started for the platform. The platform will make effort to attract more supporters. More protests will be staged when time comes, but the members and supporters of the platform will also join in all the legal and peaceful events.
Analyst Igor Botan, a member of the initiative group, said the goal of the platform “Dignity and Truth” remained the same – to unite society. Everyone suffers because of the corrupt government – Moldovans, Ukrainians, Russians, Ggaauz people and Bulgarians. Therefore, the initiative group will open consultations with representatives of all the ethnic minorities of the country, of farmers and different associations so as to engage them in the platform’s activities.
Initiative group member Valentin Dolganiuc said the civil platform managed to become a liaison to society and the May 3 protest proved this. Now the people became involved in a direct war with the oligarchs from the power, who went too far and society didn’t want to tolerate the theft of billions of lei. This government committed the most serious crime against the country – it compromised Moldova’s European course.
The members of the platform also said that they will call on the people to show their civic position in the local general elections of June 14.
