After the meeting with the Premier, the representatives of the people protesting in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau had a meeting with Speaker Andrian Candu, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovici and head of the commission on national security and defense Veaceslav Untila in the Parliament Building. As in the meeting with Prime Minister Vasile Strelet, the members of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” read the proclamation adopted in the protest staged in the central square of Chisinau on September 6. The Parliament’s administration told protesters’ representatives that a large part of their demands are contained in the government program and urged them to become involved in all the reformation processes and to formulate proposals for improving the situation in the country, IPN reports.
The head of the Great National Assembly’s Council Andrei Nastase said the protesters consider it is necessary to convene an extraordinary sitting of Parliament as one of their demands is for the Head of Parliament to resign and, given that he didn’t do it of his own free will, this thing could be obtained in Parliament.
“We are here because we want to know when the institution you represent can discuss the proclamation adopted on September 6 and how soon can we count on palpable results,” stated Nastase. He reproached the Parliament’s administration for not dismissing functionaries involved in illegalities.
Andrian Candu said the expertise and experience of the members of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” is welcome. As regards the demand to call early parliamentary elections, the Speaker said this could lead to consequences that will create a very difficult situation in the country. He noted that solutions to this situation can be identified by dialog and compromise.
As to the dismissal of particular functionaries, Andrian Candu said most of these cases refer not to the lack of integrity, but to the defective system of which these form part. He called on the protesters to submit proposals when debates are held on relevant bills and decisions.
