Dorin Chirtoaca is confident he will win second round overwhelmingly

“From this moment, the Liberal Party and I personally enter the competition for the second round of voting, which we will win overwhelmingly so that Chisinau continues to develop and we keep the position of driving engine of Moldova’s European integration and restore credibility, which was fully destroyed,” said the Liberal candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, quoted by IPN.

According to the preliminary results, Dorin Chirtoaca won 37.52% of the vote, while his opponent Zinaida Grecheanyi, of the Party of Socialists – 35.68%.

The Liberal Party’s deputy chairman told a news conference that if we add together the votes given for the other candidates of center and center-right parties, we get over 50%. The most important thing is that the Democrats will hold a majority of seats in the Chisinau Municipal Council. This means that the initiated European projects could be continued and new ones could be launched.

Dorin Chirtoaca called on his opponent to be more active in the second round, to take part in debates and to speak more about her electoral program. He noted that the Liberal Party by the first round won the mayoralty of Condrita and a majority of seats in the local councils of a number of suburban settlements, including Colonita and Bacioi. Another eight Liberal candidates will duel in the second round in eight settlements of Chisinau municipality.

In the same news conference, the Liberal Party’s chairman Mihai Ghimpu, when asked if the negotiations on the formation of a new pro-European coalition started as it was announced before the elections, he said he hasn’t yet received an invitation from his former coalition colleagues. If such negotiations are held, the Liberals will insist on the conditions announced earlier.
