Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen said he made no political commitment for being named to post and he does not know personally the coordinator of the government coalition Vladimir Plahotniuc. Such a statement was made in the program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“I know Plahotniuc less than each of you knows him. I never spoke to him. I don’t know if he knows me. I made no political commitments. I have worked for many years at the Prosecutor General’s Office. I do not remember how many governments were in the period, but I cooperated with none of them,” stated the prosecutor general.

Eduard Harunjen expressed his anger at the mass media. “Any criticism should have a limit. The prosecution service is subject to an unprecedented media attack. These are campaigns orchestrated with dirty money coming from outside the country. For example, the prosecutor who investigated the case of Filat was presented in fake porno films. As a result, her mother became seriously ill and remains hospitalized. We will try to defend our functionaries so that they work and do not resign. I will risk the image of the PGO by attracting expert NGOs and the loud cases will be fully made public. If someone proves that I cannot cope with my job, I will leave myself,” he said.

Liberal-Democratic MP Vadim Pistrinciuc and Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan said the way in which Harunjen was named prosecutor general shows that things were arranged beforehand.
