Election of new chairman sparks controversy in BCC
Marian Pocaznoi has become today the new chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), Info-Prim Neo reports.
Gheorghe Gorincioi's announcement of his age-related resignation and the decision to elect a new chairman at one and the same BCC meeting disgruntled some members. They insisted that only the issues on today's order of the day should be examined and the election of Gorincioi's successor should be postponed until later.
The objectors argued in particular that three BCC members are due to be replaced shortly; the posts have already been announced vacant and the new members could not agree with Marian Pocaznoi as chairman.
“Before long practically half of the current BCC members will be replaced. We could find ourselves in a very tricky situation when the new members could claim their right to elect a new chairman. I'm not saying that somebody is against Marian Pocaznoi. But Parliament should first determine in what conditions the BCC may elect a new chairman”, said Corneliu Mihalache.
“Marian Pocaznoi is perhaps the most intelligent among us. He is able to provide arguments to an answer, he has two university diplomas and a great deal of experience in the field”, replied Ignat Vasilache, who had proposed Pocaznoi's candidacy.
Ludmila Vasilache, another BCC member, remarked that according to the Broadcasting Code, Gheorghe Gorincioi was required to announce his intention to retire one month before he turned 62, but he failed to do so.
Eventually, Marian Pocaznoi was elected BCC chairman with the vote of 5 out of 8 members. Corneliu Mihalache, Ludmila Vasilache and Carmelia Albu abstained.
Gheorghe Gorincioi was elected BCC chairman in September 2007.
Marian Pocaznoi has worked with the BCC since 2006, starting as a consultant at BCC's licensing department. In 2008, he became member of the Council with the vote of the Communist and Christian-Democrat parliamentary factions.
BCC members are elected for a 6-year term and their replacement is done gradually. The parliamentary media commission is now due to find replacements for Carmelia Albu, Valeriu Soltan and Ruslan Plesca.
