No candidate for the post of head of state submitted all the required documents, including the confirmation that they are supported by at least 15 lawmakers, by the November 14, 00.00 deadline, the head of the special commission for the election of the head of state Tudor Deliu stated for Info-Prim Neo. “Parliament will set a new date for the presidential elections. In a plenary meeting of the legislature, the special commission will provide details about its work and the results achieved, while the lawmakers will pronounce on the issue. We will also submit proposals as regards the setting of a new date for the presidential elections,” said Tudor Deliu. He also said that the early parliamentary elections are excluded as the procedure was initiated, but wasn’t finished. The legislative body can be dissolved only when the President of Moldova is not elected in the first and second round of voting or in rerun elections. Tudor Deliu stated that his own opinion is that the legislature will have to fix a new date, but the legislation envisions a term of 30 days only in the case of rerun elections. He said that they will start again from the very beginning after the commission presents its report. Fourteen persons asked for the set of documents needed to apply for the post of head of state. Six of the 14 candidates underwent medical examination, but only three of them were issued with medical certificates, showing that they are healthy. One of the members of the medical commission said some of the applicants suffered from cardiovascular diseases and hypertension, while others had mental disorders and are thus unsuitable for the post of President. Paragraph 2 of Article 78 of the Constitution says the presidential candidates must be at least 40, have lived in Moldova for at least 10 years and know the official language.
