The Republic of Moldova must amend its electoral legislation so as to restore the electoral constituencies so as to replace the political class, said experts invited to the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Ion Dron, who heads the association “Justice and Uprightness”, considers the Moldovan electoral system is defective and violates many rights. “The right to association and the right to be chosen are violated. The parties are put in unequal conditions. The oligarchic parties possess media resources and the other parties cannot cope with the competition. We convened a group of volunteers and formulated several ideas. If these are not supported by Parliament, civil society will have to exert pressure,” said the jurist.
Deputy head of the European People’s Party of Moldova Oazu Nantoi noted it is impossible to re-form the political class without amending the electoral legislation. “We need a healthy political class to come to power. For the purpose, the Election Code should be reviewed so that there are no parties funded with ‘dirty money’,” he stated.
Valentin Dolganiuc, a member of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said the uninominal constituencies should be restored. “The people must choose the correct person and should not vote for a basket of apples or a pack of pasta,” he said.
The head of the Centrist Union of Moldova Mihai Petrache said the head of state should be elected directly by the people. “The power is now concentrated in the hands of three parties. The method of electing the President must be modified so that the head of state has a say,” he stated.
The elections in Moldova are now held within one constituency.
