Embassy of Slovakia opens condolence book

The Embassy of Slovakia in Moldova opens a condolence book in connection with the death of the first President of independent Slovakia. Michal Kovac died as a result of heart failure on October 5 at the age of 86, IPN reports.

Michal Kovac had headed the state in 1993-1998. In 1996, Michal Kovac refused to sign a law against the undermining of the state order, which would have affected the freedom of expression.

The incumbent President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska stated that Michal Kovac served as President in a difficult period of time, when a merciless and brutal confrontation was developing and its stake was the nature and future of the Slovak Republic on the map of Europe and the world. “President Kovac won this struggle. By his actions, he helped Slovakia to cover a correct path, bringing gradually the country to the European family of free nations and states,” said Andrej Kiska.

Those who want to sign in the condolence book can do it at the Embassy of Slovakia on October 12 and 13, between 10am and 2pm.
