EU and Moldovan delegations note progress in negotiating Association Agreement
The delegations of the European Union and Moldova ascertained that progress was made in negotiating the preamble, objectives and general principles of the Association Agreement. A temporary agreement was reached as regards the parliamentary dimension and cooperation with civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
The seventh round of talks on the Agreement was held in Brussels on July 5. The Moldovan delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman, while the EU delegation by Executive Director for Europe and Central Asia of the European External Action Service Miroslav Lajcak.
The Foreign Ministry said that progress was also made in such areas as justice, freedom and security and a temporary agreement is close to being reached. The negotiations on three of the 24 chapters concerning economic, sector and financial cooperation continued.
The delegations conferred on the steps taken to open the talks on the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. The Moldovan delegation welcomed the approval of the European Commission’s mandate by the Council of the European Union. The EU delegation examined the second progress report presented by the Moldovan authorities on June 30.
At the end of the discussions, it was agreed that the next round of talks will take place in Chisinau in autumn. Meanwhile, the sides will continue the discussions within the working groups through video conferences.
