The Parliament’s extraordinary session convened at the request of the Liberal-Democratic and Democratic factions closed on January 28. The ordinary spring-summer session starts in February, IPN reports.
The extraordinary session was held with the aim of choosing the administration of Parliament and forming the constituent bodies. Democratic MP Andrian Candu was elected Head of Parliament while Liliana Palihovici, of the Liberal-Democratic faction, and Vladimir Vitiuc, of the Communist faction, were named as Deputy Speakers. These were voted in by the Lib-Dems, Democrats and the Communists. The Socialist faction announced they will form the opposition.
On January 28, the MPs voted also the composition of the permanent commissions, reducing their number from ten to nine.
Now Parliament is to give a vote of confidence to the Government. After President Nicolae Timofti signs a presidential decree by which he will designate a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, this candidate will have 15 days available to form the Cabinet and to work out the government program.
