Fate of AEI will be decided Thursday

The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) after a meeting on Monday announced that the fate of the ruling alliance will be decided on Thursday, October 20, Info-Prim Neo reports. “If the Head of Parliament does not initiate the procedure for dismissing the prosecutor general, there will be initiated the dismissal of the Acting President. If the prosecutor general is more important for a person than the alliance, this person should assume overall responsibility,” said Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party. Commenting on the decision to tender his resignation taken by the National Financial Market Commission chairman, the Premier said the prosecutor general should think about doing the same. “It is premature to speak about possible coalitions. I hope a decision about the prosecutor’s dismissal will be taken the coming days. We will not give up. Our demand is not politically motivated,” said Vlad Filat. On the other hand, Speaker Marian Lupu said he cannot start the procedure for discharging the prosecutor general. “I want Moldova to be a state of law. The persons who want to resign should do it voluntarily, not under the pressure of political forces. On Thursday we will see if the ruling alliance still exists,” the Democratic leader said after the meeting with the other two colleagues from the AEI. The head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said the AEI is already dead and buried. “I have no more possibilities of maintaining the alliance. The PL has neither. I’m an ordinary lawmaker and cannot do much. I regret it that instead of looking for solutions to elect the head of state, we launch bombs inside the alliance. I’m afraid that the PLDM and PDM opened by a window to the Communists. On October 13, when the head of the Security and Information Service was dismissed, the Liberal-Democrats and the Communists started to destroy the AEI,” said Mihai Ghimpu. In the Parliament’s sitting last week, Prime Minister Vlad Filat demanded that the SIS head, the prosecutor general and the chairman of the National Financial Market Commission be discharged because they had an inappropriate behavior after the recent raider attacks on banking institutions. The SIS head was dismissed by the votes of the Liberal-Democrat and Communist lawmakers, while the National Financial Market Commission chairman handed in his resignation.
