Filat Government receives Moldova-EU Plan of Action

Biometric passports, boarder safety, combating of organized crime and corruption, and a visa-free regime - these are the main provisions of the Moldovan – European Union Plan of Action on the Liberalization of the Visa Regime that was handed over by European Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom to Prime Minister Vlad Filat on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The European official said that the EU will continue to support the ambitious government program of the Alliance for European Integration. As regards the Plan of Action, Cecilia Malmstrom said the Republic of Moldova already fulfilled a part of the conditions stipulated in the plan and the European Union will provide assistance in fulfilling the other conditions. For his part, Vlad Filat said the Government of Moldova will take efficient and determined steps in the process of Europeanizing the country. “This Plan of Action should be regarded not only as an instrument for getting a free-visa regime. Through this Plan, we want to obtain functional institutions so that our people benefit from services of a high quality,” said Vlad Filat. He added that the Moldovans will travel visa-free in the EU when Moldova fulfills this Plan of Action. The Moldovan – European Union Plan of Action on the Liberalization of the Visa Regime was finalized and approved by the European Commission on December 16, 2010. Earlier, Vlad Filat assured that the Moldovan travelers will be able to enter the EU visa-free in 2012.
