The situation in Gagauza is influenced by Moscow, which aims to destabilize the situation in Moldova and to hamper the European integration process, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said in the program Fourth Power on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.
According to the leader of the PLDM, Russia pumps important sums into leaders from Comrat and party leaders from Chisinau, who have the task of hindering Moldova’s integration into the EU. The situation in Gagauzia became tense when the parliamentary faction of the Communists initiated the procedure for dismissing the Bashkan of Gagauzia. This stirred things up.
Vlad Filat noted that the commission delegated by Parliament to improve the situation in Gagauzia achieved no result and Chisinau should thus open a sincere and constructive dialogue that would be based on the implementation of the legislation concerning the Gagauz autonomous region.
The Liberal-Democratic leader considers that the law enforcement bodies didn’t fulfill their duties as regards the holding accountable of Comrat officials who instigated to violence and of those who resorted to violence in the meeting of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. “I want the persons to blame to be held responsible in all the cases as there is no place for violence in politics in Moldova,” he stated.
He also said that it seems the leaders in Gagauzia believe that nobody will dare to hold them accountable and they are free to do what they want. Referring to the formation of people’s guards in the region, Vlad Filat said he is not against until these guards are involved in ensuring the public order and in the fight against crime. If they are involved in illegal acts, Chisinau will have to react.
