First death from A H1N1 reported in Moldova
The woman from Ungheni died from A H1N1 flu, not from seasonal flu type A as presumed earlier. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Health's press service, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The 57-year-old woman was admitted to the Ungheni District Hospital on January 12. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and died in several days.
On Monday, Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi told the press that the woman from Ungheni and another woman from Chisinau died after developing complications. They suffered from chronic diseases and their state worsened after they got infected with seasonal flu.
The laboratory tests in the case of another patient from Chisinau, who was suspected of having A H1N1, confirmed the presence of the flu type B virus. The man was admitted to the hospital with fever, asthenia and cough and is now under medical supervision.
A number of 2,883 cases of acute respiratory infection and 472 cases of pneumonia had been recorded in Moldova during January 3-9. The figures are twice larger compared with the same period last year.
