The foreign capital company S&T Mold is being investigated for swindle as it supplied equipment that does not meet the conditions of the contract to eight hospitals, causing thus damage of over 5 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In 2007, the Ministry of Health invited tenders for purchasing digital X-ray equipment for eight hospitals. S&T Mold won the tender contest. The purchased equipment was set up at the National Hospital, Saint Trinity Hospital, the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital, the Oncology Hospital, the Polyclinic of the State Chancellor's Office, the Emergency Hospital, the Mother and Child Center, and the hospital in Vorniceni.
Maria Macovei, prosecution officer of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC), said a commission of the Ministry of Health in the summer of 2008 established that the equipment does not meet the conditions of the contract. Following those findings, the company supplied digital equipment to a hospital, but withdrew it after the commission finished the examinations, saying the hospital should pay €55,000 for such equipment.
In February this year, the CCCEC opened a legal case over this case. Officials of the company face up to 10 years behind bars.
