The Premier designate Chiril Gaburici assured the academicians that the problems faced in the area of science will be included the Government’s agenda. In the discussions held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Academy’s president Gheorghe Duca said science needs greater support and they hope that this sector will be get at least 1% of the GDP in four years, IPN reports.
Gheorghe Duca also said the capacities of universities should be strengthened by creating scientific-practical centers. Investments are needed for completing the repair of dorms for students and persons studying for their doctorate.
The rector of the Academy of Economic Studies Grigore Belostecinic said that Moldova needs universities of a high quality, but no public investments are made in this area and the personnel are demotivated. Owing to the insufficiency of investments, the universities acquire a negative image and an increasing number of young people prefer to go abroad to study.
Writer Nicolae Dabija spoke about the import of books, saying the legislation in this field is imperfect. The libraries in Moldova do not have enough books. The ratio of books in Romanian to Moldovans is 2:1, while of books in Russian is 17:1.
At the end of the discussions, the candidate for premiership said the mentioned problems can be solved in a short period of time. “I took notes on what we discussed and many of these things will be definitely included in the government program. We are glad that the idea of amending the Labor Code is supported. I’m sure that the dialogue will continue because we have great minds that can solve a multitude of problems,” he stated.
Chiril Gaburici was nominated for premiership by a presidential decree on February 14. He was fielded by the Liberal Democratic Party.
