Germany’s balanced solution for Transnistrian conflict
A balanced solution for the Transnistrian conflict could be a central Government and local competences. The opinion was voiced by German Chancellor Angela Merkel during the speech she delivered at the Palace of the Republic, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Germany supports Moldova’s territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, with a special status for the Transnistrian region. The federal Chancellor thinks that that a settlement solution could be available only when all the Moldovans will have the chance to feel equally at home.
According to the European official, there is enough time to find a solution for the Transnistrian conflict and Germany would support the Moldovans on both sides of the Nistru. “We have time to look for a solution with fresh courage; there are no reasons to stay paralyzed in a conflict. Only a handful of people benefit from a frozen conflict”, declared the Chancellor, adding that the conflict paralyzed the economic and social development of the country.
Today, August 22, the German Chancellor visited Moldova for the first time, without going to the Transnistrian region or meeting with the representatives of the Tiraspol administration. Angela Merkel was in Chisinau for almost 7 hours and during this time she met with the leaders of parliamentary parties, with the President, with representatives of the business community, delivered a speech at the Palace of the Republic, laid flowers at the monument of Stefan cel Mare and visited the wine cellars in Cricova. The German delegation’s flight was scheduled for 9 PM at the Chisinau International Airport. The Chancellor was accompanied to the Airport by Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
