The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu said he is ready to form an alliance with the former colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration because they do not have what to choose from. He made the statement after the May 7 consultations with President Nicolae Timofti, IPN reports.
“If you find yourself on an island with one woman only, where should you look for the second? It’s a shame to criticize the Communists and then to act like them. We will see the conditions for the negotiations. We do not step back. We want a true alliance for the European integration,” Mihai Ghimpu told the journalists.
He also said that there are several scenarios of the developments, even that according to which the Libe-Dems will field no candidate and the interim Premier will hold the post until the next parliamentary elections.
As to the promulgation of the laws passed by Parliament last week, Mihai Ghimpu said it is the prerogative of the head of state and only he can take such decisions. He added that he anticipated the reaction of the European officials to the given laws.
On May 7, President Nicolae Timofti held separate consultations with the Liberal-Democrats, the Democrats, the reform-seeking Liberals and the Liberals of Mihai Ghimpu. The politicians said that they haven’t yet discussed a possible candidate for premiership.
