Group of Socialists will not take part in new presidential elections
The group of Socialists in Parliament will not participate in the new presidential elections if Marian Lupu runs again for President, the group’s leader Igor Dodon announced, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Igor Dodon said that the ruling alliance will be responsible for causing early legislative elections if it fields again Marian Lupu for the presidency. “We will not vote the alliance’s candidate because the AEI is associated with chaos,” he stated.
The lawmaker also said that the group of Socialists will vote only for an apolitical candidate, Zinaida Greceanyi being a suitable candidate for this post.
On Monday, the group of Socialists gave the ruling alliance five days, until December 23, to identify a compromise candidate for the new elections.
Without the Communist lawmakers and the group of Socialists, the AEI does not have a quorum for the elections. The law says that if at least 61 MPs do not take part in the elections, they are invalidated.
Earlier, the lawmakers passed a bill, which says that if a quorum is not present, the elections are declared null and void.
