The Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Philip Remler, expressed his concern at the fatal shooting in the Security Zone of the Transnistrian conflict on January 1, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Mission.
On the morning of January 1, 2012 an 18-year-old man was killed by a member of the peacekeeping force in the Security Zone of the Transnistrian conflict while transiting a PKF checkpoint near Vadul lui Voda, Moldova.
“I am concerned that force was used in the Security Zone,” said Remler. “I welcome the timely decision of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) to mandate the Joint Military Command Commission to investigate the incident,” said the Ambassador.
Philip Remler called for a thorough investigation of the incident including the actions of the peacekeepers and how they comport with the mandate, training, rules of engagement and instructions of the peacekeeping forces.
