Households will be able to produce only one tonne of wine for personal consumption. If they want to produce more and sell, they will have to declare it and pay taxes. This is stipulated by a legislative initiative, which will be finalized in six months, and which was presented at the National Coordinating Council for the implementation of the national Program on alcohol control for years 2012-2020, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Andrei Gurin, head of the State Inspectorate on the monitoring of alcohol production of the Agricultural and Food Industry Ministry, stated during a meeting that currently Moldova has no limitation on how much one people can produce at home, whereas in other wine-producing European countries there are restrictions to it.
“One tonne is enough for a four-member household. The rest will be taxable. This is how European countries do it. If it is more than a tonne, it undergoes excise taxation, whereas in our country there are is excise tax for natural wine”, said Andrei Gurin.
Under the measure, households that currently produce wine and sell it will have to go to the local authorities and declare it. For now the mechanism to trace the people who do not comply is unclear.
Andrei Gurin mentioned that the taxes and the control mechanism will be elaborated in collaboration with a Ministry of Economy task force.
