Igor Dodon preserves seat of lawmaker

Igor Dodon and Zinaida Greceanyi will not serve on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) as they decided to continue working in Parliament. The announcement was made by the former candidate for mayor of Chisinau in a news conference on July 21, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”Given that the members of Parliament modify the legislation and essentially reduce the powers of the municipal councilors, the seat of lawmaker will enable us to defend the interests of the residents of Chisinau municipality,” said Igor Dodon. According to him, the seat of MP gives him more opportunities to make himself heard. “Ghimpu and his company got frightened when the Communists entered the CMC in a large number and exerted pressure so as to obtain the amendment of the legislation and diminish the powers of the local councilors in the mayor general’s favor,” said Igor Dodon. He also said that a referendum may be held in autumn whereby the current administration of Chisinau will be given a grade. Earlier, the Liberal parliamentary group submitted in Parliament a bill allowing the mayor to name division heads instead of the CMC. The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said then that the bill was drafted a year ago, not after the Communist Party won a majority of seats on the Council.
